Don't know if he qualifies. I recently moved back to NYC, where my friends are still more into DJs than Rock-n-Roll. They turned me on to Satoshie Tomiie, who is featured in the current issue of PC Magazine. He is great. :ohttp://www.satoshitomiie.com

The 23rd member of this Forum that is..

Well, it aint such a late & great tale. But I was searching for over 10 years to find the soundtrack for the 1984 film "Get Crazy". One day I found it on LP, but forget where exactly. It was put out on a label called Morocco and includes a rare Ramones track "Chop Suey". Also Malcolm McDowell sings a cut, which is HILARIOUS, called 'Hot Shot'. No it aint another tune about riding the White Pony or scoring some brown bag down on Avenue D - It's about the macrocosmic ego of a British Rock God.

That's all for now...

Domenic & Van Dyke's Smile Book Event
« Result #3 on Jul 11, 2005, 11:46am »

Hi, y'all...
Just want to invite everyone to come out to Book Soup this Thursday night (July 14) at 7:00 p.m. Book Soup is at 8818 Sunset Boulevard, across the street from Tower Records on Sunset Strip.

I'll be with Van Dyke Parks, Danny Hutton, Tony Asher and original Crawdaddy! editor Paul Williams in a presentation/signing for my new book SMILE: THE STORY OF BRIAN WILSON'S LOST MASTERPIECE (Sanctuary Publishing).

Also, Book Soup has stocked my new self-published thing DUMB ANGEL #4: ALL SUMMER LONG, which I put together over the last 3 years with Brian Chidester. It's a new, full-color version of the 'zine I used to publish back in 1987-1989, with the theme this time being 1964 L.A. Modernism-meets-Surf instrumental/Brian Wilson and Phil Spector productions/Exotica/indie Surf movies from the '50s and '60s etc.

Anyway, please come by on Thursday, it's certain to be an interesting crowd and we can all go to Ben Frank's (aka Mel's Diner) afterwards!

Don't know if you've seen this before so I'll mention it.

http://www.beyondthebeatgeneration.com/

It's a web site with a stream radio station which mainly plays regional rock records released between 1964 and 1968. Much of their music comes from the collections of the people who run the site but others are sent in by fans, collectors and members of these band.
Their playlist archive is pretty large at over 7500 tracks.
They have 132 different versions of "Hey Joe" and 67 different versions of "Gloria".

I think it's great site.

FIRST LOOK AT NEW ALBUM FROM LESLEY GORE: EVER SINCE

www.EngineCompanyRecords.com/lesleygore

- New Bio
- First look at album cover
- Exclusive streaming audio from title song
- Tour information
- Tickets now available for three historic shows at Joe's Pub in NYC

The most commercially successful solo artist of the “Girl Group” era of the ‘60s, Gore quickly set herself apart. With a string of Quincy Jones-produced, chart-topping hits, including “It’s My Party,” “Judy’s Turn To Cry,” and “You Don’t Own Me,” she introduced the world to a brilliant artist with pop instincts and an independent spirit that stood out against the formulaic offerings on the radio. A full-fledged star by age 16, her smash hits rang like anthems for young American women, and pointed the way for future generations of rabble-rousing pop singers from Debbie Harry, to Pat Benatar, to Madonna, to Gwen Stefani—all of whom remain in her debt.

Produced by Blake Morgan, Ever Since is a timeless collection of classic songs placed in a transparent, pin-lit setting that allows her to shine. Included are re-imagined versions of two Lesley Gore standards, "You Don't Own Me" and the Academy Award–nominated "Out Here On My Own" (from Fame), seamlessly interwoven with new songs written by national recording artists Mike Errico, Blake Morgan, and Gore herself. The band—Jonathan Ellinghaus (drums), John Turner (bass), Mike Errico (guitars) and Blake Morgan (piano)—features the core rhythm section of Engine Company Records, and provides a lush setting for Lesley's astonishing vocals. Mixing and mastering duties are shared between Morgan and 2005 Grammy Award winner Phil Nicolo.

Ever Since is a Lesley Gore postcard, sent from the journey she’d always said she was going to take. Fans who have traveled with her will have a new reason to love her, and the people who haven’t checked in with her in a while will fall in love all over again.

LESLEY GORE: Ever Since
June 28th
on Engine Company Records

NYC shows at Joe's Pub will kick off the national release

BACKSTORY:

“You know what I’m going to say when people ask me
what I’ve been doing for 30 years? ‘Practicing.’”

A wry smile crosses Lesley Gore’s face as she answers, both out of respect for the artistic process she is eternally engaged in, and out of the confidence that her “practice” has been paying off all along. Every time she steps on stage, and with every phrase of her new album, Ever Since, she answers joyfully, furiously, generously, and completely. This has been time well spent.

Having maintained a constant touring schedule in major venues across the country, Lesley Gore is no less committed today. Her voice, now burnished from the years of “practice”, deepens everything it touches with the hard-won wisdom of time, and in her care, songs take on new levels of meaning that less experienced artists cannot yet reach. On “Not The First,” (written by Gore), she warns a friend about the perils of blind love (“you’re not the first/ to think you’ll be the last,”), but could just as easily be warning Avril Lavigne about the perils of the music business. When she lilts, “All the parties I’ve been to/ you were missed” (“Ever Since”), she draws listeners back to her #1 hit, “It’s My Party,” while ushering them gracefully forward into the new world she now inhabits.

Ever Since is a Lesley Gore postcard, sent from the journey she’d always said she was going to take. Fans who have traveled with her will have a new reason to love her, and the people who haven’t checked in with her in a while will fall in love all over again.
